¡¡Benzyl chloride is manufactured by the direct photochemical
chlorination of toluene. The four largest uses for benzyl chloride
are benzyl cyanide, benzyl alcohol, benzyl phthalates and Quats.
Other important uses include benzyl esters, pharmaceutical intermediates,
benzyl amines, dibenzyl sulfide and pesticides.
¡¡Benzyl chloride is an intermediate in the production of a broad
range of benzyl esters. The largest-volume ester is benzyl salicylate.
These products are used in a wide range of applications such
as cosmetics, paints, dyes and in sectors such as pharmaceutical
intermediaries and agro-chemicals.
